Article 164 outlines the process for the appointment of CM by the Governor, (the Governor is the one who administrates the oath of Chief minister)
1. No confidence motion - In this scenario, if the ruling govt. fails to prove its strength in the State assembly (if the total state assembly seats are 80 and the running govt. falls short of even 1 seat from the majority like they have 39 seats) the governor has the right to dissolve the assembly and invite other stakeholders to claim the majority and form the govt.
2. Dismissal by Governor (356) - Under certain circumstances, the governor can recommend the dismissal of the Chief Minister of the respective state if there is a constitutional breakdown, this recommendation is sent to the President of India, if the President approves the President's rule is imposed within the state, and the CM is removed.
3, Resignation of the Chief Minister - The Chief minister of any state has the right to leave his/her post voluntarily, (The reason can be anything from the following)
